Indian earthquake victim, five-year-old Pooja Indersingh, moistens her parched lips while sitting amidst the rubble of her home at Rapar village. Pooja was rescued four days after the earthquake.
Gurjat state in India was hit by several earthquakes measuring up to 7.9 in the Richter scale, one of the largest earthquakes in Indian history, on 20 January 2001. The SPOT and RADARSAT satellites were able to take several images of the area. This information, combined with high resolution images from the commercial satellite Ikonos, is being used for the civil reconstruction of the country. Photo: AP/Sherwin Crasto
