Data from ESA's Earth observation satellites will be used by the PREMFIRE system to provide the latest status to civil protection staff in the field. This image is a multi-time colour composite image of the Lisbon area obtained by the ESA Earth observation satellite ERS-2. Data such as these will be integrated with traditional geospatial information such as topography, fire history, land use and meteorological conditions. The PREMFIRE project is part of the general development of fire risk cartography and a trial system will be operated by the civil protection authorities in Portugal.
