    • Description

Mobile lunar habitat servicing the lunar radio telescope.
This design was developed during the Lunar Base Design Workshop held at ESA's ESTEC in June 2002. The task of this programme was to develop innovative lunar base designs that go beyond the first stage construction into the realm of long duration durable expandable lunar bases. This Workshop, organised by a team of space professionals (Barbara Imhof, Susmita Mohanty, Hans-Jurgen Rombaut, Poul van Susante, Jim Volp), involved 40 graduate students from 16 countries and 13 disciplines, with an emphasis on architecture to design novel lunar base concepts. It had a one-month follow-up course held by Prof. Helmut Richter at the Institute for Design and Building Construction of the University of Technology Vienna (UTV). The programme was sponsored by ESA, the Austrian Space Agency, the Austrian Ministry of Technology, Transport and Innovation, Endemol and other private companies.
