      This wide-swath radar image (400km wide) is centred over the state of Rio de Janeiro, located in eastern Brazil. It is bordered on the east by the Atlantic Ocean, on the south by the state of São Paulo, and on the west and north by the states of Minas Gerais and Espírito Santo. The varied topography can be observed, with sharply contrasting areas of coastal lowlands and rugged mountains. The Serra da Mantiqueira mountain range form the state's boundary to the west. The city of Rio de Janeiro is visible as a large bright area (bottom left).
