ESA-selected Mars500 crewmember Oliver Knickel uses the electronic nose to sniff out signs of bacteria and fungi in the isolation facility. The electronic nose if one of the many experiments being conducted during the 105-day Mars500 study which sees a crew of six live and work in a special isolation facility at the Institute of Biomedical Problems (IBMP) in Moscow, Russia. Two of the six crewmembers have been selected by ESA.
