    • Description

An industrial robot is being employed by the ESA-led silicon pore optics consortium to achieve precision stacking of mirror plates. The stacking has a major influence on the ensuing system’s optical performance so will be carried out on a fully automated basis. Some 200 000 separate plates will be needed for the IXO candidate mission. The stacking is performed in a cleanroom to minimise particle contamination, further optimising optical quality.
