The Kanzelhöhe Observatory for Solar and Environmental Research is the only such observatory in Austria and is affiliated with the Institute of Physics at Karl-Franzens University Graz. Tasks include the systemic observation of the Sun and the climate and the development of instruments.

Kanzelhöhe Observatory is one example of an existing European centre of expertise that could be federated into SSA services.
