      Aquastream, a disease-management tool based on a 3D numerical hydrodynamic model, provides critical information for managing the risk of spreading diseases. Such models require observations on temperature and wind in order to deliver reliable simulations and predictions. For large aquaculture areas, these data are best provided by satellites.

      This figure shows the concentration and northward spreading of the Pancreas Disease virus from an aquaculture settlement in the south (red) within an intense salmon-farming area on the west coast of Norway. Such numerical simulations account for the local hydrodynamics and the survival time of the virus in the marine environment in order to assess the risk of contamination between sites.
