Andreas Mogensen was selected as an ESA astronaut in May 2009 and completed the astronaut basic training program at the European Astronaut Center in Cologne, Germany in November 2010. Currently, he is awaiting his first flight assignment to the International Space Station.
In addition to his ongoing training activities, Mogensen is working on the ESA lunar lander program at ESTEC, where he is involved with the design of the guidance, navigation, and control system for precision landing. Furthermore, he is working as Eurocom at the Columbus Control Center in Munich, where he communicates with the astronauts currently onboard the International Space Station.
Mogensen has also been appointed adjunct lecturer at the National Space Institute at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU Space).
Andreas Mogensen was born in Copenhagen, Denmark, in 1976. He received a master’s degree in engineering from Imperial College, London, and a doctorate in engineering from the University of Texas at Austin, in the United States. He has been working as an attitude & orbit control system and guidance, navigation & control engineer for HE Space Operations. His pastimes include rugby, mountaineering and diving.
