When Japan was struck by an 8.9-magnitude earthquake in March 2011, ERS-2 revisited the area every three days, measuring vertical ground deformation to centimetre accuracy. In this image, cloud computing joined the Taiwan receiving station CSRSR, ERS-2 satellite data, Mianmi’s Center for Southeastern Tropical Advanced Remote Sensing and CNR/IREA to provide timely data to the science community.
