    • Description

The StarTiger Seeker industrial team at the Paranal Very Large Telescope site. Front row from left: Gary Cross - BAE Systems - Robotic Platform, Dr. Mark Woods - SciSys - Seeker Technical Lead, Dr. Bach Van Pham - LAAS - DEM Generation and Absolute Localisation, Patricio Raul Arias Ortiz - Field Guide, Back Row from left: Unal Artan - MDA - Path Planning, Estelle Tidey - Roke Manor - Visual Odometry, Dr. Andy Shaw - SciSys - Software System Lead, Wayne Tubby - RAL - Programme Logistics and Support, Aron Kisdi - RAL - Programme Logistics and Support, Brian Maddison - RAL - Project Manager.
RAL, besides managing the programme and hosting the development, put together an impressive suite of instruments to support field testing. BAe Systems made available the very sturdy ROBOVOLC rover, together with its sensor and telecom suite. SciSys provided the 'glue' software that allowed the different parts to interoperate, built the executive and the ground station that was used to program the rover course and monitor its motion. MDA-UK provided the obstacle avoidance and piloting system, Roke Manor the camera calibration and visual odometry system, LAAS provided stereo-vision reconstruction and absolute localisation and the University of Oxford a visual odometry system.
